In the past couple of decades, the department of Biotechnology, Acharya Institute of Technology has been recognized as one of the best Biotechnology program in Bangalore. Department of Biotechnology is recognized by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and affiliated by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The department was started in the year 2002 with the intake of 30 students and currently the intake has been increased to 60. It is also a recognized research centre offering M.Sc. (Engg.) by research and Ph.D. programs. The research centre has facilitated the graduation of 5 research scholars to pursue their doctoral degree. The department also has produced 2 M.Sc. (Engg.) by research scholars. The research has paved way for filing 2 patents from the department. Department has highly qualified faculty experienced in the areas of Genomics and Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Biosensors, Process Engineering, Nanobiotechnology, Food and Plant Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biomaterials and Fermentation technology. The lab infrastructure are upgraded with the grants obtained from AICTE-MODROBS. Department has been consistently accredited by NBA since 2009. The Department won the state-level best project award from KSCST 3 years in row in 2017-2018, 2018-19 and 2019-20. The department has MoUs with Merck life science Pvt.Ltd., Neo-stick Tapes Pvt.Ltd., and Acharya & BM Reddy College of Pharmacy which paved wave for collaborative research work and conducting hands-on training programs for the welfare of the student community.
