Construction Technology and Management

Overview

    Construction Technology and Management refers to the discipline of overall planning, coordination and control of projects from beginning to completion with the course being a unification of civil engineering and construction management .The construction industry is composed of five sectors: residential, commercial, heavy civil, industrial, and environmental. Addressing the needs of the ever-growing construction industry that has generated a huge demand for enterprising people who can integrate construction science, engineering and business, Acharya Institute of Technology has introduced the Construction Technology and Management Program. The department of Construction Technology and Management at Acharya commenced its journey in the year 2011 under Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi that is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

    The department of Construction Technology and Management division functions as a center of teaching, learning, and research in Concrete Technology and Construction Management. The dynamic combination of faculty members with expertise in Geotechnical engineering, Construction technology & management, and Structural engineering brings in an interdisciplinary research culture within our department. The department has a mandate to provide a platform for advanced research and training on the subject and for dissemination of knowledge through print and audiovisual media, conferences and seminars. Unique and different in many aspects, the Department of Construction Technology and Management has its curriculum outlined to address the present day requirements of the construction industry.

   Designed to give students an understanding of the overall building of construction industry, the Construction Technology and Management program prepares graduates with knowledge and skills necessary to enter the administrative and middle management levels of the construction industry. The purpose of the programs is to facilitate the students’ continued professional and scholarly development.The programs are designed to extend the students’ knowledge and emphasize a particular area of concentration. Having created repute as one of the top institutes in the entire state of Karnataka, the Construction Technology and Management Department has striven to achieve excellence in academics, as well as setting up a benchmark for the construction industry. The Construction Technology and Management Department is arguably the best in its areas of expertise.

Programs

Under Graduate

B.E. in Construction Technology & Management

Duration  : 4 Years
Eligibility : Pass in 10+2 / Higher Secondary (HS) / Pre University (PUC) / 'A' Level (with 12 years of schooling) or its equivalent with English as one of the languages. Shall have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following : Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Science. AIT admits students as per prevailing rules and regulations of VTU.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

1. The program produces graduates that will grow as professionals after graduation to be effective as they advance within the field of construction management and adapt to changing environment.

2. The program produces graduates that will effectively lead work and communicate to multidisciplinary environment in the construction management industry and related fields.

3. The program produces graduates that will demonstrate professionalism and ethics in making decisions in leadership and management roles in their disciplines.

4. The program produces graduates that will demonstrate professional competence in the application of technical standards and codes.

Program Outcomes (POs)

a. An understanding of basic science mathematics engineering fundamentals for solution of complex construction problem.

b. Identify formulate and analyze complex construction problems reaching substantiated conclusions using the knowledge of basic science.

c. Design solution for complex construction problem and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety.

d. Using research based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments analysis and interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions.

e. Create and apply modern techniques in construction industry and tools to predict and model complex activities with
    an understanding to the limitations.

f. Apply information gained to assess societal health safety legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional construction practices.

g. To understand the impact of constructional engineering solutions in environmental context for sustainable development and also to apply ethical principles and commit ourselves to professional ethics.

h. Function effectively as an individual and a member or a leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary construction projects.

i. Communicate effectively on complex construction activates with the engineering community and with society at large such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation make effective presentation and receive clear instruction.

j. Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning in the broadest context of technological change in construction field.
