Bachelor of Social Work

Overview

The Department of Social Work was set up in 2015. It has been the part of the Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies since 2015-16. The Department of Social Work has a vision of grooming the youth, at local, national and international level as social Work professionals from the level of graduation i.e., Bachelors of Social Work to post Graduation i.e., the Masters of Social Work, further making the eligible and motivated youth conduct research in the social work field, for fighting the social evils and providing the professional support to those in need to overcome the inherent or acquired disabilities thus positively contributing to the development of healthy and happy society. Towards this end the Mission of the department of Social Work is to provide all the theoretical inputs and practical field experience of social work activities for creating an “Academic excellence and leadership in university based management education in India through high quality teaching, research, case development, innovative practices and pedagogy of learning".

Programs

Under Graduate

Bachelor of Social Work

Duration  : 3 Years

Eligibility : Those students who have completed two years Pre University course of Karnataka State or equivalent thereto, with subjects enumerated under the faculty of Arts and have secured 50% of Marks in the aggregate of all the subjects excluding the language at the qualification examination are eligible for admission to B.S.W. course.


Career Scope

Social work is more a way of life than career. However in today's growing sensitivity to society's concerns, many corporates and organisations reach out to the needs of the society either through CSR initiatives or Sponsorships which certainly necessitates proper management by trained professionals. A degree in BSW certainly would be a great qualification for jobs in this area.

Mission

The mission of our department is to provide our students with a strong education in the theoretical, scientific, and applied study of psychology. To this end we seek to,

• Provide our undergraduate majors with knowledge of psychology as an art, a science and a profession.

• Provide our graduate students with high quality programs that prepare them for careers in industry, government, mental health settings, educational settings, and further postgraduate study.

• Provide students enrolled in programs a basic understanding of psychology and its importance in all human endeavours.
